John R. Hopkins (1931–1998) was a British playwright and screenwriter. A British Writers Guild Award-winner for his time writing on the BBC series Z Cars, a police procedural set in the Merseyside area which ran for twelve series in total. Hopkins was also an accomplished film-writer, having worked on the scripts for the James Bond movie Thunderball and The Offence, both starring Sean Connery. Hopkins wrote extensively for the stage; his play This Story of Yours premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in 1968, while Next of Kin was first produced at the National Theatre, London; Harold Pinter directed the latter. Hopkins's other plays include Absent Forever, Economic Necessity, Find Your Way Home, Losing Time, On Location and Talking To A Stranger.
