Larry Gelbart (1923-2009) was a writer for radio, stage, screen and televison and a humorist. After some success with radio shows, he moved into television and became one of the top comedy writers. In M*A*S*H, Gelbart first introcuced multiple plot lines to half-hour television programmes. His stage works include Shy Fox (1976), Mastergate (1989), Power Failure (1990), Feats of Clay (1991) and musical libretti for two hit shows, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1962) and City of Angels (1990).
