George Furth (1932–2008) was an American playwright, actor and librettist. Born in Chicago, he became a member of the Actors Studio early in his career, and made his Broadway debut acting in a play named A Cook for Mr General in 1961. Well known for his collaborations with Stephen Sondheim, he won a Tony and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Book of a Musical for Company. Other works include The Act, The End, Getting Away With Murder, Merrily We Roll Along, Precious Sons, The Supporting Cast and Twigs.
